On-chain
The characteristic of being persisted and validated by the nodes of a distributed ledger network. The term “on-chain” refers to the blockchain data structure, but is generally conflated to refer to any immutable data structure, including DAGs.
Off-chain
The characteristic of data and computations that exist outside of the context of a distributed ledger network.
