IPFS

IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) is a protocol for sharing and accessing files across a decentralized network of computers. It uses a combination of DHT (Distributed Hash Tables) and content-based addressing to link and retrieve files stored across nodes. This technology enables faster access to content because it is peer-to-peer and thus does not rely on centralized servers, which may be geographically distant from the user and computationally expensive for retrieving data. This same characteristic makes IPFS more resilient to outages and censorship when compared to centralized databased.

Fast access and robusteness from decentralization make IPFS a powerful complementary technology for distributed ledgers. IPFS is a popular solution for storing content associated with NFTs or for archiving historical blockchain state when the ledger gets too large.
